Richard Joseph Elias, Jr., 92, of 900 Butler Springs Road, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009. He was born August 19, 1917 in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late Richard Joseph, Sr. and Mary Cunat Elias. He married Marie Therese Sievers on May 11, 1946 in Cleveland, OH. He served with distinction as a Technical Sergeant with the US Fifth Army in the Northern Africa and Italian campaigns during WWII, and was the recipient of an EAME Theater Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. Following the war, Mr. Elias became an accountant and was the head of the Cost Accounting department at Platt Saco-Lowell in Easley, SC, and also served as an Accounting Professor at Greenville Technical College. Following his retirement, Mr. Elias served as a consultant with RTP Environmental Associates, Inc. and Hollingsworth Inc. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and often attended Mass at the Monastery of St. Clare. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, William Richard Elias and his wife, Terry Dickman of Divide, CO, Kenneth Robert Elias and his wife, Judith of Madison, VA, Donald Francis Elias and his wife, Judith Frost of Martinsville, NJ, Richard Charles Elias and his wife, Linda of Palm Harbor, FL, and Dr. Russell Joseph Elias and his wife, Carrie of Tempe, AZ; six grandchildren, Chad and wife Liz, Drew, Brittany, Alyssa, Jed, and Ariella. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Florence Smith and Mary Kasik. A Memorial Service will be held at 9 AM on March 7, 2010 at the Monastery of St. Clare in Travelers Rest.
